FUNAAB Celebrates 32nd Convocation with 120 First Class Graduates and Remarkable Milestones

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), is set to hold its 32nd convocation ceremony on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in its history. This year, a total of 3,567 undergraduates will graduate, including an impressive 120 First-Class achievers. Additionally, 1,626 students will be awarded Second Class Upper degrees, 1,624 will graduate with Second Class Lower, 164 will finish with Third Class, and 33 students will receive degrees in Veterinary Medicine.

Speaking during a media briefing on Wednesday, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, shared additional details about the convocation. “There will also be 30 Postgraduate Diplomas, 274 Master’s degree graduates, and 136 Ph.D. holders who will be part of the convocation,” he said.

Prof. Kehinde announced the addition of eight new academic programs to the university’s offerings, including Library and Information Science, Industrial Chemistry, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering, bringing the total to 38 fully accredited programs across 54 departments. He also highlighted the university’s achievements in research, revealing that the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved six research proposals worth over ₦171 million for its scholars. Many of the university’s researchers also secured international grants, receiving funding in both dollars and euros, further emphasizing FUNAAB’s dedication to academic and research excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor commended Tetfund for its continued support, noting that 19 academic and research projects are currently underway at the university with Tetfund’s backing.

Addressing the ongoing food crisis in the country, Prof. Kehinde stressed the importance of Public-Private Partnerships in increasing food production. “We have partnered with 30 organizations and are already seeing results. I equally encourage that we all embrace backyard farming; we all have to get involved to tackle this challenge,” he said.

He also provided updates on financial support for students, disclosing that over ₦133 million had been disbursed through the National Education Loans Fund to the first batch of 1,300 students, with an additional 1,638 students set to receive funds in 2025.

The convocation ceremony will feature a lecture by Mohammed Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Development Fund. Other highlights include an exhibition of farming machinery and the honoring of two past Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Olusola Oyewole and Prof. Kolawole Salako, with monuments named in their honor.
