Lagos Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Slapping 3-Year-Old Pupil

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a schoolteacher, Stella Nwadigo, following allegations of physically abusing a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, at Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu.

The incident came to light after a video showing the teacher mistreating the young boy went viral on social media, prompting widespread public outrage.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said on Wednesday, January 8:
“The teacher has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing investigation. Further necessary actions will follow to ensure justice is served.”

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) also confirmed the arrest in a statement shared on its official X account. It read:
“We are pleased to inform the public that the teacher in question has been arrested by Owutu FSU, and an investigation has commenced in earnest. Indeed, institutions of learning should be safe, warm, and protective environments for all children in their care.”

The DSVA reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting children by enforcing strict regulations, holding offenders accountable, and collaborating with stakeholders to uphold a zero-tolerance policy for abuse in any form.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining safe and nurturing environments in schools, where children can learn and grow without fear.
