The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) offers an incredible opportunity for individuals from developing countries to pursue a master’s degree in development-related fields. What is the JJ/WBGSP?

This prestigious scholarship supports individuals from select developing countries with relevant professional experience and a proven dedication to their country’s development. It provides full funding for 41 participating master’s programs across 24 top universities located in the U.S., Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan. These programs focus on key development areas such as economic policy management, infrastructure management, and tax policy.

Scholarship Details

The JJ/WBGSP offers comprehensive funding that covers:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Monthly living stipends
  • Round-trip airfare
  • Health insurance
  • Travel allowance
  • Funding for study materials

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the 2025 scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of a World Bank member developing country
  • Not hold dual citizenship with any developed country
  • Be in good health
  • Have earned a bachelor’s degree at least three years before applying
  • Have at least three years of paid, development-related work experience (exceptions apply for candidates from fragile or conflict-affected states)
  • Be unconditionally admitted to one of the participating master’s programs outside their home country
  • Not be affiliated with the World Bank Group as an employee or close relative

Note: Strict adherence to the eligibility criteria is required. No exceptions will be made.

Application Process

The application is divided into two rounds to align with academic calendars:

  • Round 1: January 13 – February 28, 2025 (12:00 noon EST)
  • Round 2: March 25 – May 23, 2025 (12:00 noon EST)

Candidates must be shortlisted by their target university before receiving the application link. It’s essential to confirm eligibility and details with the participating program.
