WAEC Launches Resit Exams for WASSCE Candidates, Announces January-February 2025 Schedule

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced a resit examination program, giving candidates the opportunity to retake their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) papers in January and February 2025.

This initiative was confirmed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana. Kapi revealed that the new program, known as WASSCE PC1, aims to help students improve their grades more quickly.

“Students who check their WAEC results and realize they need to retake one or two subjects can register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés by 8th January,” Kapi explained.

The exams are set to run from 24th January to 15th February 2025. To aid candidates in their preparation, WAEC plans to release chief examiners’ reports earlier than usual. These reports will highlight common mistakes made in past exams and provide useful tips for better performance.

“We’ve widely advertised this program through banners, our website, and the results checker platform to ensure both students and parents are informed,” Kapi added.

Eligible students include those whose results were canceled, provided they are not under long-term bans for malpractice. Due to the relatively low number of candidates, the exams will be held in regional capitals.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to complete their registration by 8th January to take advantage of this opportunity. WAEC hopes the initiative will help students improve their grades and avoid delays in their academic journey.
