A fierce rainstorm has left a trail of destruction in Ogele, a community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State. Striking on the night of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the storm tore through homes, schools, mosques, and even a health center, leaving many residents without shelter.
Among the worst-hit buildings were Ansarul Islam Primary School, Community Secondary School, and multiple mosques. The storm didn’t just damage structures—it also knocked down concrete utility poles and high-tension wires, plunging Ogele, Afon, and nearby areas into darkness.
Residents are still coming to terms with their losses, with many seeking urgent relief. Alhaji Abubakar Akanbi, the Aare of Ogele, whose house was also affected, has urged the government to provide immediate assistance. “The impact of this disaster is overwhelming,” said Alhaji Issa Akanbi-Oniyo, Chairman of the Ogele Descendants Progressive Union (ODPU), noting that several families have been left homeless.
The community is now appealing for support from both government agencies and charitable organizations to help rebuild and recover from the devastation.
