Rector Oyewale Salaudeen Leads Ikirun College’s Mission to Train Nigeria’s Next Health Heroes

At Ikirun College of Health Technology in Osun State, passion for education and a strong commitment to improving healthcare are at the heart of everything they do. Since its founding in May 2024, the institution has focused on equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel as healthcare professionals and leaders.

The Rector, Mr. Oyewale Salaudeen, spoke about the vision that brought the college to life. He explained that the urgent need for trained health workers in Nigeria was a driving force behind establishing the school.

“Recognizing the urgent demand for skilled health professionals, we set out to train students who will make a tangible difference in their communities,” he stated.

The college is fully approved by the Osun State Ministry of Education and licensed by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). It offers young Nigerians access to quality education in health-related fields, preparing them to serve in vital roles across the country.

One standout initiative making this vision even more accessible is the scholarship scheme sponsored by Hon. Adetunji Olusoji, who represents the Odo-Otin/Ifelodun/Boripe constituency. Thanks to his support, 300 students are receiving 50% scholarships, breaking financial barriers and opening doors for more aspiring healthcare workers.

According to Mr. Salaudeen, the school offers a variety of programs tailored to address Nigeria’s pressing health challenges. These include Community Health Technology, Health Assistant, Health Information Technology, Public Health Assistant, and Public Health Technology.

“These courses provide students with practical skills in disease prevention, maternal and child health, environmental sanitation, medical diagnostics, and pharmaceutical services,” he added. “By aligning our curriculum with national healthcare priorities, we are nurturing professionals who will significantly contribute to the well-being of Nigerians.”

The college places a strong focus on practical, hands-on learning, ensuring that graduates are job-ready and confident to take on real-world challenges. It’s also working closely with regulatory bodies like the NBTE and exploring partnerships with hospitals and international institutions to expand training and research opportunities.

Mr. Salaudeen shared that the school is undergoing strategic development to secure full NBTE accreditation. From upgrading facilities and hiring more experienced lecturers to expanding its curriculum, Ikirun College is steadily building a world-class learning environment.

“We are introducing new programs, expanding our facilities, and recruiting highly qualified lecturers and administrative staff,” he revealed. “These steps will ensure that our students receive the best possible education in a dynamic and innovative setting.”

With its eyes set on the future, Ikirun College of Health Technology is positioning itself as a hub for nurturing professionals who will lead the charge in transforming Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.

“Our goal is to nurture professionals who will drive positive change and innovation in the industry, ensuring a healthier future for our communities,” Mr. Oyewale concluded.
