JAMB to Review 2025 UTME on May 15 Amid Rising Complaints from Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced May 15 as the date for reviewing the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This decision comes after a wave of complaints from candidates and stakeholders over alleged irregularities in the released results.

In a letter dated May 13 and signed by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, the board formally invited education consultant Alex Onyi to join the review panel.

“The Management of the Board has approved your participation to be part of the review panel constituted to appraise the conduct of the examination with the mandate to identify challenges, if there are any, and proffer relevant recommendations to prevent a recurrence,” the letter reads in part.

The panel includes representatives from key education bodies such as the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, and the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria (CPN). Also part of the team are chief external examiners, university vice-chancellors, polytechnic rectors, college provosts, and JAMB support staff.

JAMB stated that participation in the panel would be voluntary and at no cost to the board.

This review comes on the heels of JAMB’s release of the 2025 UTME results, which revealed that over 78% of candidates scored below 200 out of 400. The low performance has led to more than 8,000 petitions from students, citing issues like technical glitches during the exams.

While JAMB maintains that the results are accurate, the board is working closely with ICT professionals and educational stakeholders to investigate the concerns raised and maintain trust in its examination process.

JAMB has called on the public to remain calm and allow the review process to take its course.
