Renewed Bandit Attacks Force School Closures in Katsina

Fresh violence in Katsina State has forced authorities to shut down schools in Guga district, Bakori Local Government Area, as fears grow over worsening insecurity in the region.

The decision came after an early morning attack on Thursday in Dabaro, a community in Faskari LGA, where several residents were reportedly killed and numerous cattle stolen by suspected bandits.

A security analyst, Bakatsine, confirmed the incident in a social media post:

“This morning, bandits attacked Dabaro in Faskari LGA, Katsina State. They killed several people and rustled many cattle. Insecurity in Katsina South continues to deteriorate, as residents report the closure of schools in Guga due to rising threats.”

The escalating violence has heightened concerns across southern Katsina, a region already grappling with the activities of armed groups known for raiding villages, kidnapping residents, and rustling livestock.

Katsina is one of several northwestern states in Nigeria dealing with ongoing security challenges. These criminal groups, often called bandits, operate from dense forests that stretch across Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger states.

In recent years, such attacks have led to the repeated closure of schools across the region, especially following high-profile abductions of students. With the latest violence, residents fear the threat to education and safety is far from over.
