Students Urge Ondo Governor to End Salary Crisis at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC) in Ondo State, is appealing to the Ondo State government to step in and resolve the ongoing salary crisis and management issues affecting Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo.

According to a statement by NANS JCC Chairman, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba, the students are hopeful that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will take swift action to restore normalcy and ensure students return to class without further delay.

Tobiloba shared that he led a team of student leaders, including members of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Students’ Union Government, to meet with the Governor at his office in Akure.

“Yesterday, I led a delegation of student leaders, including the leadership of the Students’ Union Government of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, to a crucial meeting with the Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, at the Governor’s Office in Akure.

“This meeting was held in response to the directive of His Excellency, who earlier tasked me with assessing the ongoing crisis at RUGIPO and presenting the concerns of the students directly to him.

“During the engagement, I appreciated the Governor for his proactive leadership and recent interventions in the institution, particularly the approval of the Convocation Ceremony and partial payment of salary arrears.

“I also expressed my dissatisfaction with the prolonged industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), which has disrupted academic activities and placed our students in a state of uncertainty and hardship.”

The students are counting on the Governor to resolve the crisis as soon as possible, so learning can resume and academic progress isn’t further delayed.
