Igbinedion University, Okada, has officially inaugurated its 7th Governing Council and appointed Professor Ahmed Mora as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council. The announcement was made during a formal ceremony held in Benin City on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
Prof. Mora is a respected academic and pharmacist who previously served as Chairman of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria. He brings with him extensive experience from his service on governing boards of several institutions, including Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the university’s Chancellor, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, who was represented by his son and Deputy Chancellor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion.
In his remarks, the Chancellor commended the outgoing 6th Council for its dedication and impact, which helped reinforce the university’s standing as one of Nigeria’s top private institutions.
“We are indebted to the sixth council for their invaluable contributions to the enviable position of Igbinedion University within Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape. This serves as both an inspiration and a challenge to the seventh council, which we are inaugurating today,” he said.
Some key achievements of the 6th Council include:
- Development of a five-year strategic plan
- Establishment of an oil palm mill
- Commissioning of a 70-room hotel
- Successful execution of the university’s 25th anniversary celebration
Chief Igbinedion noted that every member of the new council was selected based on their individual track records and the value they bring to the university’s long-term vision.
In addition to Prof. Mora’s appointment, Prof. Charles Uwensuyi-Edosomwan (SAN) was named as the Deputy Pro-Chancellor.
The university is optimistic that the new council will build on the progress of its predecessor and lead the institution into a new phase of growth and innovation.
