Lafarge Africa Builds Modern Libraries for Two Secondary Schools in Cross River

Lafarge Africa has officially commissioned two newly equipped libraries in its host communities in Cross River State, reinforcing its commitment to education and youth development.

The libraries, now open at Obutong Comprehensive High School and Government Secondary School in Akwa Ikot Effanga, were handed over in a dual ceremony attended by community leaders, education stakeholders, and company representatives.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Abiodun Akingbade, who represented the Mfamosing Plant Manager, Milad Hanna, highlighted the importance of supporting education at the grassroots level.

“These library projects reflect our commitment to listening and responding to what really matters to our host communities. We embarked on these projects to provide access to tools that empower children located within these communities,” Hanna stated.

He added that the initiative aligns with the Cross River State government’s goal of improving educational infrastructure and ensuring students have access to quality learning environments.

Also present at the event was Dr. Moses Agboreyo, Director of Policy & Higher Education in Cross River State, who represented the Commissioner for Education, Sen. (Dr.) Stephen Odey. He praised Lafarge Africa for its consistent support of the state’s educational sector, noting that such efforts go a long way in complementing the government’s work.

Dr. Agboreyo also called on traditional leaders and local authorities to ensure the new libraries are well maintained and secured for long-term benefit.

In Obutong, Mr. Inyang Bassey, Communications & Public Affairs Manager at Lafarge Africa, noted that the project is part of the company’s wider corporate social responsibility strategy aimed at fostering sustainable development.

“We believe that knowledge is a cornerstone for building thriving communities. Through this project, Lafarge Africa is not only contributing to academic excellence but also reinforcing the value of community partnership. Every investment in education today is a step toward a more sustainable tomorrow,” Bassey said.

With this latest contribution, Lafarge Africa continues to strengthen its role in enhancing community development through education and infrastructure initiatives.
