Over 5,600 Students and 34 Teachers in Nigeria Benefit from New Digital Learning Initiative

Thousands of students and teachers across three Nigerian states have received access to digital education tools, thanks to a collaborative effort by ProFuturo Foundation, American Tower Corporation, and the Kukah Centre.

The official launch of the initiative took place on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Atiku Bagudu Science Model Primary School in Birnin Kebbi. The project delivered digital learning equipment and resources to 5,672 students and 34 teachers across Kano, Kebbi, and Taraba states.

Dr. Emmanuel John Nkanta, Project Manager of ProFuturo and the Kukah Centre, explained that the program is part of a broader initiative reaching 123 primary schools and benefiting more than 76,000 children.

“The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Mission are the collaborating entities implementing the project in the benefiting states, covering public and private schools respectively,” Nkanta said.

Beyond digital access, the program has also offered training in digital literacy and pedagogy to over 1,200 teachers across 13 Nigerian states, including Borno, Sokoto, Kaduna, and Bauchi, among others. The focus is on bridging digital infrastructure gaps, especially in rural areas with limited internet access.

The latest digital tools were delivered to selected schools following a formal agreement signed in March 2025 between ProFuturo and American Tower. In Kebbi, three schools were beneficiaries: Atiku Bagudu Science Model Primary School, Gwandu Emirates Model Primary School, and St. Dominic Schools in Birnin Kebbi.

Commending the project, Prof. Suleiman Khalid-Jega, Chairman of Kebbi SUBEB, said:

“The state government is committed to supporting digital child education projects by improving access to quality education through digital tools and resources.”

Also speaking at the event, Very Rev. Fr. Chukubueze Onyekwelu, Vicar Pastoral of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, praised the impact of the initiative:

“This project will enhance the skills of teachers and students in the use of technology while providing digital educational content tailored to the needs of the students.”

With this intervention, more schools are gradually being empowered with the tools to deliver 21st-century education in underserved regions of Nigeria.
