ABUAD Secures Full NUC Accreditation for 13 Programmes Across Four Colleges

The Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) has received full accreditation for 13 undergraduate programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC), marking another major step forward for the institution. The accredited programmes span four key colleges: Engineering, Medicine & Health Sciences, Sciences, and Social & Management Sciences.

Programmes with full accreditation include Civil, Computer, Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, Mechatronics, and Petroleum Engineering under the College of Engineering; Medicine & Surgery and Dentistry under the College of Medicine & Health Sciences; Industrial Chemistry and Agriculture under the College of Sciences; and Intelligence & Security Studies, Peace & Conflict Studies, and Political Science under the College of Social & Management Sciences.

According to a statement by ABUAD’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Tunde Olofintila, the accreditation exercise was conducted in October and November 2024, in line with Section 10(1) of the Education (National Minimum Standard & Establishment of Institutions) Act Cap B3, which empowers the NUC to set academic standards and accredit university programmes. The approval is valid for five years.

Founder and Chancellor, Aare Afe Babalola, expressed immense joy at the development, calling it “another milestone in the history of our university.” He said, “We started well. We are doing very well. Our rating as No. 1 in the world in SDG 7, No. 1 in Outreach with 98%, and No. 1 in Stewardship with 98.2%, as well as being top among all 264 Nigerian universities in 2022, 2023, and 2024 according to Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, is a further confirmation that we are doing well. Indeed, we have overshot our expectations.”

He added that the achievement reflects the collective efforts of students, faculty, parents, and key regulatory bodies such as the NUC, MDCN, NSE, COREN, and others.

The acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olasupo A. Ijabadeniyi, also praised the accreditation milestone, saying it reinforces ABUAD’s reputation as the number one university in Nigeria. “That this is coming from the NUC now, when we are still celebrating our Times Higher Education rankings, is providential. It reflects the quality of education we offer in this 21st-century university,” he said.

The accreditation is seen as a big boost to the university’s mission to reform functional education in Nigeria—focusing on quality, service, discipline, and innovation.
