UNIPORT Denies Viral Rumour About Deity Python Killed on Campus

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that a massive python, believed to be a deity, was killed by students on campus.

The rumour, which gained traction online, alleged that the snake was discovered on Tuesday night after it reportedly dropped from a ceiling into the PC classroom, where students were present.

However, the university’s Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations, Dr. Sammy Kpenu, has debunked the story, describing it as completely false and designed to incite fear.

According to him, no such incident occurred.

“The attention of the University of Port Harcourt Management has been drawn to unfounded rumours and misleading social media posts alleging that a ‘big snake’ was killed in one of the classrooms on campus and being described as a deity.

There is also a voice note in circulation, spreading fear and insinuating doom, further fueling this baseless claim.

The University wishes to categorically state that these claims are entirely false, baseless, and a figment of the imagination of mischief-makers.”

Dr. Kpenu emphasized that no snake was seen or killed anywhere on the campus. He attributed the false story to individuals trying to gain attention online at the expense of the university’s image and the peace of the community.

“The University remains a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning, research, and all legitimate activities,” he added.

The management has urged students, staff, and the public to disregard the rumour and refrain from spreading unverified claims. He also stated that steps are being taken to track and report those responsible for circulating the misleading content.

UNIPORT advised everyone to rely solely on its official communication channels for verified information about the institution.
