FUOYE Researchers Secure ₦89.964 Million in Federal Government Research Grants

Four researchers at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) have secured a total of ₦89.964 million in National Research Fund grants from the Federal Government to carry out projects focused on solving key challenges in education, healthcare, unemployment and pharmaceutical innovation.

The Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, announced the achievement in a statement on Monday, describing it as another major milestone in the university’s growing reputation for research and innovation.

The grants were awarded through a competitive National Research Fund selection process, with the successful projects addressing important national issues.

Among the recipients is Prof. Omotosho Babatunde Joshua, who received ₦19.964 million for his research project titled “Towards Addressing Unemployment Situation in Nigerian Formal Labour Market.”

Dr. Adeniyi Bolajoko Florence, a Reader in the Department of Educational Management, was awarded ₦20 million for her study titled “From Chalkboards to Intelligent Systems: Comparative Analysis of Traditional and AI-Driven Teaching in Nigerian Federal Universities for Global Competitiveness.”

Dr. Ojo Stephen Kayode, a Reader in the Department of Microbiology, secured ₦21 million for his project, “Development of Innovative Cosmetic Formulations Using Fungal Melanin for Hair Growth Enhancement, Follicle Preservation, and Dandruff Management.”

Also, Dr. Adeleye Olutayo Ademola, a Reader in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, received ₦29 million for his research titled “Combating Diabetic Wounds Using Natural Remedy with Ethosomal Hydrogel Topical Delivery.”

According to the university, the grants reflect FUOYE’s growing reputation as a centre for impactful research, with its academics developing practical solutions to some of Nigeria’s most pressing socio-economic and healthcare challenges.

Congratulating the award recipients, Prof. Ogunwole praised their achievement and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting high-quality research.

He said:

“The grants are evidence of the quality of scholarship in the university. Our management is also committed to creating an enabling environment for cutting-edge research, innovation, and academic excellence.

“This feat further reflects FUOYE’s rising profile as a centre of research excellence, expressing confidence that the projects would produce impactful findings capable of addressing pressing national challenges and enhancing the university’s global visibility.”

The Vice-Chancellor added that the university remains committed to promoting research that drives national development, encourages innovation and strengthens Nigeria’s global competitiveness.
