The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi recently hosted officials from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for a two-day accreditation and re-accreditation exercise involving 78 academic programmes.
Led by the Board’s Director of Polytechnic Programmes, Dr. Fatima Umar, the NBTE team visited the institution to assess both new and existing programmes, focusing on facilities, staffing, and overall academic quality.
Dr. Umar, represented by Mr. Adesina Oluade, highlighted some areas needing attention, particularly the availability of reading materials, journals, power supply, and laboratory resources. She assured the institution of a fair and transparent review process aimed at strengthening quality assurance across all programmes.
The Rector, Sani Usman, described the visit as a resource inspection and a vital evaluation of what the Polytechnic has achieved over the past five years.
According to him,
“The inspection and accreditation exercise by the NBTE would allow the Polytechnic to continue running its programmes by evaluating what was done in the last five years.”
He also mentioned that plans are in place to hire more lecturers soon, following government approval, in order to replace staff who have left and ensure that the institution keeps pace with evolving academic standards.
