Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is giving hope to students seeking refuge in the UK with its 2025 Sanctuary Scholarship. This opportunity provides full tuition and financial support for up to two undergraduate students who are asylum seekers or have temporary immigration status granted due to an asylum claim.
This initiative is open to students applying to degree programmes in either the Faculty of Science & Engineering or the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
What the Scholarship Covers
Successful applicants will receive:
- A full tuition fee waiver
- A maintenance support grant that includes:
- £1,700 equivalent to the Queen Mary Bursary
- Living support of up to:
- £8,877 for those living with parents
- £13,762 for those living independently
This support is non-repayable—you don’t need to pay it back.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the Queen Mary Sanctuary Scholarship, you must:
- Be an asylum seeker or the child of an asylum seeker
OR - Have temporary immigration status due to an asylum claim (e.g., limited leave to remain, discretionary leave, or humanitarian protection)
AND
- Be ineligible for funding from the Student Loan Company because of your immigration status
- Have applied via UCAS to an undergraduate course at Queen Mary University of London by January 29, 2025
- Hold a conditional or unconditional offer
- Not already have an equivalent or higher-level qualification
