What You’ll Be Doing
As a Process Safety and Risk Engineering Intern, you’ll support safety and risk management efforts across operations or project teams. This hands-on role builds core experience in areas like process safety, risk assessment, incident prevention, and emergency preparedness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Understanding and applying ExxonMobil’s safety and risk standards and regulatory requirements
  • Supporting hazard analysis processes such as HAZOPs, PHAs, and risk assessments
  • Identifying safety non-conformities and recommending practical, business-appropriate improvements
  • Collaborating with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams
  • Sharing learnings from incidents and promoting best practices
  • Understanding behavioral safety principles and contractor safety protocols
  • Participating in compliance monitoring and safety advocacy activities

Where You’ll Work
The internship is based in Lagos, Nigeria, with the potential to collaborate across various business lines and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Need to Apply
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience in the oil & gas industry
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
  • Fluency in English, with solid technical and business communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (experience with PHAST or similar tools is a plus)

Preferred Experience:

  • A higher degree in Risk or Safety Engineering is a bonus
  • Familiarity with safety-related codes and standards (e.g., API 14C, NFPA)
