The EducationUSA Nigeria Opportunity Fund Program (OFP) 2026 is now accepting applications from qualified Nigerian students who are interested in pursuing higher education in the United States.
The program is an initiative of the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria through EducationUSA Nigeria. It is designed to help academically outstanding students with leadership potential gain access to higher education opportunities in the United States.
The 2026 cohort aligns with the Freedom 250 celebration, which commemorates 250 years of American leadership, innovation, and democratic values. Through the Opportunity Fund Program, selected students will receive support to become globally competitive talents, particularly in areas that contribute to economic growth, innovation, and international collaboration.
The program also promotes responsible participation in U.S. educational opportunities by ensuring that students understand and comply with all visa and immigration requirements.
Preferred Fields of Study
Priority will be given to exceptional students whose academic background and career goals align with key areas of interest, including:
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Critical and emerging technologies
Benefits of the Opportunity Fund Program
The Opportunity Fund Program helps students cover some of the major costs involved in applying to U.S. universities. Support may include:
- Standardized test fees
- University application fees
- Other related application expenses
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the program, applicants must:
- Demonstrate excellent academic performance
- Show strong leadership potential
- Have a clear intention to study in the United States
- Present evidence of significant achievements and research capability
- Demonstrate an understanding of visa compliance and responsible participation in U.S. exchange and education programs
Selection Process
