JAMB has reversed its earlier ban on swapping registered phone numbers and changing email addresses for UTME candidates.
The board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, announced the policy shift in a statement on Monday.
The restriction was originally imposed to guard against vulnerabilities such changes posed at the time.
Benjamin explained that the board has since strengthened its identity and biometric verification systems.
The new policy took effect from Monday, September 21, 2026.
It will allow candidates who have lost access to their registered SIM numbers to update their details.
Those whose registered email accounts can no longer be recovered can also make changes ahead of subsequent UTME exercises.
“The initiative is aimed at reducing the hardship and trauma associated with the loss of access to candidates’ registered credentials and making the processes leading to tertiary education admission more seamless,” Benjamin said.
The concession comes with strict conditions, however.
Candidates seeking to alter their details will be subjected to rigorous authentication checks to curb impersonation and fraud.
The SIM swap or email change service will be available to each candidate only once.
How to Change Your JAMB SIM or Email
- Candidates must first obtain a court affidavit from a High Court to support their request.
- They should then log into their JAMB e-Facility profile.
- On the e-Facility menu, candidates should select “Penalties.”
- Under the Penalties menu, they should select “SIM Swap/Email Change Penalty Payment.”
- Candidates must pay the prescribed fee for the service through the portal.
- After payment, they should visit the nearest designated JAMB office to complete the process.
The service is available only at designated JAMB PTC/PRC Centres.
Candidates will be required to provide their profile code and existing GSM number.
They will undergo biometric verification as part of the process.
The scanned copy of the court affidavit will also be uploaded to complete the process.
JAMB warned candidates not to patronise cybercafés, agents, or unauthorised centres offering SIM swap or email change services.
