A FUNAAB alumni donation of 40 two-seater chairs worth ₦2 million has given the College of Engineering (COLENG) a timely boost.
The gift came from the 2011/2012 Civil Engineering (CVE) Set of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
What started as a nostalgic return to campus turned into a lasting gesture of giving back.
Presenting the chairs on behalf of the set, Engr. Sunday Adeyemo said the aim was to improve the welfare and learning environment of current students.
He explained that a visit to the university last year left him worried about the condition of the space. That sparked conversations among members of the set on how to make a difference.
The alumni then raised ₦2 million to buy the chairs. According to Engr. Adeyemo, it was also a way of thanking the lecturers who shaped their education and careers.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Head of the Quality Control and Assurance Unit, Prof. Saliu Amolegbe, thanked the alumni for the thoughtful gesture.
He said it could serve as a model for other generations of FUNAAB graduates and urged them to find ways of contributing to their alma mater.
The Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Adedayo Badejo, praised the set for its commitment and described the donation as a valuable step towards a better teaching and learning environment. He hoped the initiative would be sustained and repeated in the future.
The Ag. Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. Igba Tobit, also appreciated the alumni for taking practical steps to support students.
The event ended with the formal handover of the chairs to COLENG.
The message was clear. The best way to honour an alma mater is to help build a better future for those who come after.
