FG Approves NYSC Mobilisation for Full-Time HND Graduates

In a major policy shift, the Federal Government has approved the mobilisation of all full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This was announced by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, in a statement released by the ministry’s director of press and public relations, Folasade Boriowo, on Thursday in Abuja.

According to Alausa, after discussions with the NYSC director-general, it was agreed that only graduates from full-time HND programmes would be eligible for mobilisation. This decision marks a significant milestone for HND graduates, who had previously been excluded from the NYSC programme, reinforcing the government’s commitment to equity and inclusivity in the education sector.

“However, those who did HND part-time are not eligible for mobilisation at all,” Alausa stated.

To ensure a smooth transition, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has been instructed to expedite the collation of data for eligible graduates. A directive has also been issued to all Polytechnic Rectors to upload necessary graduate records onto a newly developed HND admission portal.

Alausa emphasised that this portal would serve as an official database for NYSC mobilisation, addressing long-standing issues related to admission records and documentation. He encouraged all eligible HND graduates to take advantage of this opportunity and complete their mobilisation process promptly.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all Nigerian graduates and enabling them to contribute to national development through the NYSC scheme.
