NELFUND Hits 500,000 Student Loan Applications in One Year

The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has revealed that over 500,000 Nigerian students have applied for loans through its platform in the past year.

This was shared in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Ms. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Director of Strategic Communications for NELFUND.

Akintunde Sawyerr, NELFUND’s Managing Director, noted that reaching this milestone in just 11 months underscored the critical need for accessible student financing across the country.

“This is more than just a number; it’s a signal of hope for families across Nigeria,” Sawyerr said. “We are witnessing a nationwide demand for opportunity, and NELFUND is proud to be at the heart of this transformation.”

Since the launch of the portal, students across Nigeria have actively engaged with the application process, applying for both institutional and upkeep loans, proving the urgency of NELFUND’s mission to make higher education more accessible.

Sawyerr also reiterated the organization’s commitment to transparency, accessibility, and efficiency, and urged all stakeholders to support the vision of providing equitable education for all.
