Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has pledged a ₦15 billion development package to elevate the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil — a state-owned institution in Kano — into a leading centre of learning and innovation.
Speaking at the university’s 5th combined convocation ceremony following his investiture as Chancellor, Dangote outlined a five-year strategic plan that will be executed through his foundation.
The project will focus on five key areas:
- A modern engineering laboratory
- A fully equipped computer lab with 24-hour internet
- Construction of new student hostels
- A mini solar power plant to ensure uninterrupted electricity
- A new Senate building
He also promised automatic job offers to the best graduates in Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, who will be considered for positions in his companies, including the refinery, cement, and agribusiness divisions.
Dangote emphasized the need for the university to keep up with global academic and market demands, calling for increased focus on research, technology, and innovation.
Also at the convocation, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced foreign scholarships for the top nine graduating students. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing infrastructure projects in the university and supporting its educational advancement.
Vice Chancellor Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai shared that over 18,000 students graduated from seven combined sets, including 2,950 postgraduate students. He also announced honorary doctorate awards for five distinguished Nigerians:
- Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso – Doctor of Science
- Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal – Doctor of Business Administration
- Dr. Ahmed Adeyemi Raji, SAN – Doctor of Law
- Prince Arthur Eze – Doctor of Business Administration
- Alhaji Mustapha Ado Ammasco – Doctor of Business Administration
The Vice Chancellor also revealed a generous pledge from Femi Otedola, who promised to construct a 500-bed capacity hostel for the university.
