The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), over the alleged drugging and rape of a 20-year-old female student.
The police spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest on Monday, noting that the case forms part of the command’s ongoing efforts to tackle serious offences across the state.
According to early findings, the victim was invited to the apartment of her longtime friend, 19-year-old Queen Sodo. She was given a drink that was later discovered to have been drugged, leaving her unconscious.
DSP Ayanlade explained, “After noticing the victim had become incapacitated, Queen Sodo reportedly left the room, invited her male accomplice, and kept watch while the crime occurred.”
A neighbour who heard unusual noise from the room stepped in and found the victim unconscious with the male suspect present. The victim was rushed for medical care and later moved to a specialist facility, where she is currently recovering.
Both suspects have reportedly confessed, giving investigators a detailed account of their roles. Key evidence, including the drug-laced drink, has been recovered and identified by both the victim and the suspects.
DSP Ayanlade added that the suspects remain in lawful custody and will be transferred to the Gender Desk Office for further investigation and prosecution. He stressed that the police remain committed to ensuring justice, saying offenders will face the full consequences of the law. He also advised parents and guardians to educate their children on the risks that may exist even in familiar relationships.
