Nagatecho ’98 Alumni Provide Free Medical Outreach for School and Community

The Nagatecho ’98 Heritage Foundation, formed by the 1998 graduating class of Ebira Community Secondary School, has partnered with Serenity Healthcare Limited to deliver free medical services to students and staff of the school in Ogaminana.

The outreach extended beyond the school community, reaching students, teachers, retirees and nearby residents. Many described the initiative as timely, especially for people who struggle to access quality healthcare.

Former principal and retired Director of Education, Mr. Bernard Ehusani, said the programme offered meaningful relief to community members. According to him, beneficiaries received consultations, health awareness sessions on hypertension and diabetes, diagnostic checks and essential medications at no cost. He expressed gratitude to the organisers for using their expertise and resources to support community wellbeing.

A retiree of the National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO), Mrs. Sefinat Omeiza, also praised the gesture. She noted that the team provided respectful and compassionate care, the kind of attention she said is “seldom encountered in regular hospitals.” She emphasised that participants were not required to pay any fees, thanking the organisers for fully funding the outreach.

Medical Team Lead, Pharm. Ohida Aminu, who represented the Nagatecho ’98 Heritage Foundation, explained that the group was created to support both its members and the wider community. He said the outreach was financed solely through alumni contributions, similar to their previous projects. Aminu encouraged other alumni associations to emulate the commitment shown by the 1998 set.

The immediate past President General of the school’s old students association, Sani Yakubu Opene, commended the initiative, describing it as another remarkable effort by the group. He also recalled the set’s donation of textbooks during the school’s 50th anniversary.

The programme delivered screenings, health education and free medication to students, staff and residents, strengthening the foundation’s record of purposeful community service.
