The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has extended the deadline for student loan applications for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Originally scheduled to close on January 31, 2026, the application window will now remain open until February 27, 2026, giving prospective applicants more time to complete and submit their forms.
The extension was announced on Thursday in a statement signed by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND. She explained that the decision was taken to allow more students the opportunity to properly complete their applications.
According to the Fund, the move is aimed at ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student is left out of the programme due to time limitations or difficulties encountered during the application process.
Reacting to the extension, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, said the decision aligns with the Fund’s mission to promote equal access to education financing.
“This extension reflects our commitment to inclusivity and access. We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund,” Sawyerr said.
NELFUND urged students who are yet to apply or who have not completed their applications to take advantage of the new deadline and ensure all required information is submitted on or before February 27, 2026.
The Fund also noted that further updates will continue to be shared through its official communication channels. Applicants and members of the public who need more information were advised to contact NELFUND via email at [email protected] or through its verified social media platforms.
