The Oganihu Eziudo Development Association has donated educational materials to public school students in Eziudo ancient town, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, Imo State.
The donation took place at the association’s first education initiative programme, held at the Central School, Eziudo, over the weekend.
The President of the association, Wise Ibeji, represented by the Vice President, Chibuzo Nnorom, said the gesture was about investing in the future of Eziudo.
“We believe strongly in education as one of the most important instruments for transforming individuals, families, and community,” Ibeji said.
“When we support a child in any school, we are not only helping that child today; we are building future professionals, teachers, professors, doctors, entrepreneurs, engineers, technocrats, responsible citizens who will take over the administration, support, and building of Eziudo,” he added.
He said this is the reason behind the association’s education initiative, tagged “Catch Them Young, Build Our Future, Transform Eziudo.”
“We deliberately chose the word catch them young because the foundation of a child’s future begins early. If we give our children the right encouragement, learning materials, discipline, opportunities, and support at this stage of life, we increase their chances of achieving their dreams,” he said.
Nnorom noted that the school materials presented might seem simple, but carry greater meaning for the children.
“To a child, a brand-new school bag, exercise books, pencils, pens, and other learning materials can mean something much greater. They can create excitement about school, restore confidence, and remind our children that their community believes in them,” he said.
He appealed to parents to support the initiative by encouraging their children to attend school regularly and take their studies seriously.
“To parents, we say, you are our partners. We cannot transform Eziudo without your support. Please encourage your children to attend school regularly, study harder, respect their teachers, and develop their character,” he said.
He also commended teachers for their commitment and sacrifice in shaping the next generation of Eziudo indigenes.
“Oganihu Eziudo Development Association recognises that providing materials alone is not enough. We must continue to work together to create an environment where our children can learn, grow and excel,” he added.
Nnorom also appreciated community leaders, education officers and PTA leaders for honouring the association’s invitation.
He encouraged the pupils to take their education seriously and dream big.
“This programme is for you. We have done it today; bear in mind it will be your turn to do it in the future. Please take your education seriously, dream big, believe in yourselves, listen to your parents and teachers, work hard and do not allow your present circumstances to determine your future,” he said.
In his remarks, a member of the Board of Trustees of Oganihu Eziudo, Mr Donald Erondu, urged the students to make effective use of the materials provided.
“Let the donation by the association inspire and encourage you to take your studies seriously,” he said.
He called on other stakeholders in Eziudo to emulate the association by being intentional in the development of the town.
