Kebbi’s New Nursing College Admits 172 Students, First Graduates Due in 2028

The newly established Kaura Gwandu College of Nursing and Midwifery Science in Kebbi State has admitted 172 students.

Its first batch of National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates is expected in 2028.

The Provost, Dr Muhammad Musa, disclosed this on Wednesday during an interactive session with media aides to Governor Nasir Idris. He thanked the governor for setting up the college to widen access to healthcare education.

According to Musa, the institution has helped ease admission pressure on the State College of Nursing Sciences, Birnin Kebbi. He said it is also creating jobs and boosting economic activity in the state.

The first set of students is currently writing examinations, with 80 of them sitting for the National Diploma examination.

“The first set of students is currently writing examinations, while the first batch of ND/HND graduates is expected in 2028,” the provost said.

He added that arrangements have been concluded for the admission of the second batch of students.

The college has also drawn students from outside Kebbi State, including Imo, Enugu, Niger, Ogun and Kaduna states. Musa said this shows its potential to become an important centre for training healthcare professionals.

He said the college has qualified lecturers, standard laboratories, a library and ICT facilities to support teaching and learning.

Musa also acknowledged the state government’s provision of staff quarters, male and female hostels and security arrangements to keep the learning environment conducive.

The provost said the college is committed to high academic standards and will enforce discipline among students, especially on dress codes and examination malpractice.

He commended Governor Idris for following due process before establishing the institution, noting that it has helped the college stick to its academic calendar.

Musa, however, appealed to the state government for rural posting allowances, teaching allowances and more security personnel to improve safety in and around the college.

He also urged residents to support government policies and programmes that expand educational opportunities and strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce.
