The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has announced the appointment of one of its Deputy Bursars, Mrs. Antigha Effioanwan Asuquo, as the pioneer Bursar of Godswill Akpabio University, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
According to the Ag. Head, Directorate of Public Relations, FUNAAB, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, the appointment marks a significant milestone in Mrs. Asuquo’s career, following more than 19 years of service in university financial administration at FUNAAB.
She joined the Bursary Department in July 2007 and has served in various capacities since then.
Mr. Olajide said Mrs. Asuquo currently serves as Head, Payroll and Personal Entitlements, a position she assumed on November 1, 2023.
In that role, she oversees the preparation and processing of monthly salaries for academic and non-teaching staff, salary variations, staff entitlements, third-party deductions, pension remittances and other payroll-related financial operations.
He added that she also supervises the finalisation of salary payments through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), reviews staff records on the university’s administrative software platform, and ensures the accuracy of computations relating to promotions, step increments and earned allowances.
Prior to her current responsibility, Mrs. Asuquo served as Head of the Treasury Section and rose to the position of Chief Accountant, a role she held from 2018 to 2023.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Mrs. Asuquo holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, obtained in 2000, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Borno State, earned in 1991.
Her academic distinction dates back to her undergraduate years, when she emerged as the Best Graduating Student in Accounting and Best Female Graduating Student in Accounting at UNIMAID in 1991.
Reacting to the appointment, the FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, congratulated Mrs. Asuquo, describing it as recognition of her professionalism, competence and commitment to excellence in university financial administration.
Prof. Kehinde expressed confidence that she would bring her wealth of experience and expertise to bear on her new assignment, particularly in establishing and leading the financial management structure of the newly established university.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended Mrs. Asuquo for her contributions to the financial administration of FUNAAB and wished her success as she assumes the historic responsibility of serving as the pioneer Bursar of Godswill Akpabio University.
Mr. Olajide said the appointment further highlights the depth of professional expertise and institutional experience developed at FUNAAB, describing Mrs. Asuquo’s emergence as another significant milestone in her distinguished career.
