A Physics teacher at Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe (EMCCO) in Okene Local Government Area, Kogi State, has been left in a coma after being brutally assaulted by some of his students. The teacher, identified as Muktar Salihu, was attacked by a group of SS2 boys who reportedly belong to a cult group. These students humiliated and beat the teacher as part of their plan to assert control over the college’s administration.
Salihu, who is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital, was attacked in what appears to be a well-orchestrated act of violence. The leader of the group, Abdulbatin, is the son of a local traditional ruler, the Opokitipo of the Esusu clan in Okengwe district, adding a layer of complexity to the situation.
Following the incident, a teacher from the college has appealed to relevant authorities for help in addressing the growing cult activities within the school. In a statement, the teacher said,
“We urge the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, the security agencies, and other relevant authorities to urgently swing into action with a view to bring the perpetrators to book, forestall future occurrences, and instill discipline in our schools and colleges.”
The District Police Officer has already stepped in, ordering the traditional ruler to ensure his son is presented to the authorities by tomorrow.
