Ogun State Governor Rewards Teacher Shortlisted for Global Teacher Prize with N5m and a Bungalow

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has honoured Kayode Adewale, a mathematics teacher from Imagbon/Imaka Comprehensive High School, who was recently shortlisted among the Top 50 teachers worldwide for the prestigious Global Teacher Prize. To celebrate his achievement, the governor presented Adewale with a bungalow and a cash prize of N5 million.

The recognition comes in light of Adewale’s innovative teaching methods and his relentless dedication to transforming education. Adewale, an alumnus of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, has gained both local and international acclaim for his contributions to the field.

Governor Abiodun expressed his pride in Adewale’s accomplishments and praised him as a visionary educator, reflecting the pride Ogun State takes in its educational heritage. He also announced that Adewale would serve as the Ogun State Education Ambassador.

“I am immensely proud to celebrate one of our own, Kayode Adewale, who has earned a place among the Top 50 teachers globally in the prestigious Global Teacher Prize,” Abiodun stated on X (formerly Twitter).

Global Teacher Prize Recognition

The Global Teacher Prize, a US $1 million initiative by the Varkey Foundation, supported by UNESCO, acknowledges educators who have made extraordinary contributions to education. Adewale’s recognition as one of the top 50 teachers highlights his exceptional work in transforming lives through education.

In addition to his recognition as the Ogun State Education Ambassador, Adewale will receive a bungalow in any part of Ogun State of his choosing, along with the generous cash award of N5,000,000. Governor Abiodun commended Adewale’s unwavering commitment to educational excellence and his tireless efforts to uplift his community.

“His achievements are a testament to his hard work, dedication, and focus. From winning the Best Teacher Award in Ogun State in 2020 to being globally recognized in 2025, Kayode has shown what it means to serve selflessly,” the governor stated.

Kayode Adewale’s recognition is not just a personal triumph but also a source of inspiration for educators both within Ogun State and across Nigeria.
