UNILORIN Names New Deputy Vice-Chancellors to Drive Academic Excellence

The University of Ilorin has announced the appointment of two distinguished academics, Professors Taibat Odunola-Bakare and Mukhtar Adeiza Etudaiye, as its new Deputy Vice-Chancellors. They succeed Professors Olubunmi Omotesho and Sulaiman Ambali, whose tenures concluded in December 2024.

According to a statement by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the appointments were recommended by the Senate and are pending final approval by the University Governing Council.

“The two new Deputy Vice-Chancellors would formally assume office once the University Governing Council, led by Surv. Abiodun Aluko, approves the decision of the Senate,” the statement read.

Prof. Taibat Odunola-Bakare, a renowned Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the immediate past Dean of the Postgraduate School, is set to become the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). She currently serves as the Director of the Centre for Management and Leadership (CML) at the university.

On the other hand, Prof. Mukhtar Adeiza Etudaiye, a respected Professor of Law and Chairman of the University Admissions Committee, is poised to take up the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology, and Innovation).

In a related development, the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology, and Innovation), Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, will transition to serve as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services).

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellors for their dedication and significant contributions to the university’s progress.
