Tragedy in Delta: University Staff Member Assassinated at Home

The Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, community is mourning the tragic loss of one of its own, Mr. Olisaemeka Chukwuma, a dedicated staff member of the Bursary Department.

Chukwuma, aged 56, was fatally attacked at his home in the St. Bridges area of Umueji, Asaba, over the weekend. He had reportedly returned to Asaba for his regular weekend visit when the heartbreaking incident occurred.

The university’s bursar, Mrs. Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as an unexpected tragedy. “He was a very good jolly fellow. He had a good relationship with everyone. You will never hear him raise his voice against anyone. He was always smiling and happy,” she said, offering prayers for his family to find strength during this difficult time.

Another colleague, Mr. Moses Darah, shared his grief on Facebook, highlighting Chukwuma’s warm and peaceful personality. “I urge the police authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. As I speak to you now, Asaba is no longer safe; we are confused over the situation,” he lamented.

The Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing to uncover the culprits behind this heinous act.

This tragedy has left a significant void in the DELSU community and raised concerns about safety in the Asaba area.
