The Polytechnic, Ibadan, is set to host its 39th Convocation Ceremony, with former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, delivering the keynote lecture. His lecture, titled Emerging Technological Advancement, National Development, and Growth in the 21st Century: Repositioning Nigerian Polytechnics, will explore the vital role of polytechnics in driving national progress through technology and innovation.
Addressing the press ahead of the event, the institution’s Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, emphasized the significance of the lecture, noting that The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has consistently been a trailblazer in technological advancements. He assured that the event would highlight the institution’s commitment to national development and the importance of equipping graduates with relevant skills for the 21st century.
Dr. Lasisi also shared an exciting update for graduates, stating that all certificates have been signed and are ready for collection. “I want to disclose that thousands of certificates of previous graduates are waiting for collection,” he said, signaling a resolution to past delays.
Security remains a top priority for the institution, and the Acting Rector reassured attendees of a well-coordinated arrangement to ensure safety throughout the event. He reiterated the school’s zero-tolerance policy for violence, with security agencies fully involved in maintaining order.
The convocation ceremony will commence with a Jumat service at the institution’s Central Mosque on Friday. Dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include the Visitor to the Institution and Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Iba of Kisi, Oba Aweda Lawal; the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade; alongside former governors, industry leaders, technocrats, and other distinguished guests.
