UNIZIK SSANU Elects New Executive Team

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has ushered in a new leadership following a successful election held on Tuesday, 25 March 2025.

Comrade Chukwudi Antonia Chineyenwa emerged as the new Chairman, alongside other elected officials who will lead the union for the next four years. The team includes Comrade Ofuebe Obierika Amuchluchenna as Vice Chairman, Comrade Anyali Tevin as Secretary, Ohis Victor Sunday as Assistant Secretary, and Comrade Akujobi Tochukwu Prince as Treasurer. Others are Comrade Nzewi Chinedu (PRO), Comrade Nwafor Onyebuchi (Ex-Officio), Comrade Edith Ogoma (Financial Secretary), Comrade Modesta Onyenyechi (Women’s Coordinator), and Comrade Aniakor Kingsley Nnamdi (Trustee).

The election, which marked the 5th Quadrennial Congress, was held at the university’s Multipurpose Hall and overseen by the electoral committee led by Comrade Engr David Okeke. It drew representatives from SSANU’s National and South-East Zonal Committees, as well as media, security officials, and members of the university community.

National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, officially inaugurated the new executive and praised the election process for being free, fair, and credible. He urged the newly elected officials to live up to expectations and serve with integrity.

National Vice President (South-East Zone), Comrade Engr Okey Animba, also congratulated the team and encouraged them to uphold the values of the union.

In her acceptance speech, Comrade Chukwudi Antonia expressed gratitude and promised to champion the welfare of SSANU members. She said, “I dedicate this victory to God,” and appreciated the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu, for supporting a smooth and peaceful election process.

Engr Okeke, who chaired the credential committee, described the entire process as peaceful and commendable.

With a new team in place, SSANU UNIZIK looks set for a fresh chapter driven by unity, purpose, and service.
