A recent visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, to the Delta State School of Nursing in Agbor didn’t go as planned—at least, not when it came to winning over the students.
Senator Tinubu was in Delta State to promote her advocacy for free treatment programs for HIV/AIDS patients. During her visit, she addressed the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council in Asaba, urging monarchs to help raise awareness on key health issues, including the impact of HIV/AIDS on youth and the need to end female genital mutilation.
But what caught the attention of many online was a viral moment from the event. In the video, the Master of Ceremony (MC) tried to rally the students with a chant in praise of the First Lady, singing:
“Na my mama be this o, we no get another one.”
To his surprise, the students replied:
“Na your mama be this ooooo.”
Their response—firm, yet calmly delivered—sparked reactions across social media, with many interpreting it as a subtle protest or a reflection of public sentiment toward the current administration.
President Bola Tinubu’s government has faced criticism over economic reforms like the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira, both of which have led to increased hardship for many Nigerians. Some believe the students’ response reflects this growing frustration.
Despite the incident, Senator Remi Tinubu has remained optimistic about Nigeria’s direction. At an Iftar dinner held at the State House in Abuja, she expressed confidence in the country’s recovery, stating that “brighter days lie ahead.” She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to overcoming national challenges and improving the welfare of all citizens.
The Iftar event brought together notable women from across the country, including former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, wives of governors, ministers, and service chiefs. Professor Azeezat Adebayo of the University of Ilorin delivered a lecture on compassion and mercy, urging Nigerians to extend kindness across religious and social lines—especially during Ramadan.
While the First Lady continues her health advocacy efforts, the viral video serves as a reminder of the complex emotions and expectations of the Nigerian public—especially among the youth.
The Students Forum Nigeria serves as the ultimate hub for Nigerian students, fostering academic growth, social engagement, and knowledge sharing.
