Elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has urged Akure indigenes to unite and ensure the speedy take-off of the newly approved Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital.
The Federal Government recently approved the establishment of the hospital and appointed Prof. Olusegun Ojo as its pioneer Chief Medical Director, effective March 5. This development has been widely celebrated in the Akure community, where the dream of having a teaching hospital has been alive for nearly two decades.
Fasoranti expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for making the project a reality and stressed the importance of joint effort in bringing it to life.
“I am calling on sons and daughters of Akure-speaking communities to support and ensure the successful take-off and smooth running of the hospital during my lifetime,” he said during a courtesy visit by the Akure Community Central Planning Committee, led by Dr. Olufemi Oyinsan.
Dr. Oyinsan, who leads the committee, also welcomed the Federal Government’s approval and the appointment of Prof. Ojo. He expressed hope that this milestone would finally lead to the physical establishment of the hospital and urged the government to fast-track the remaining administrative processes.
He thanked key supporters of the project, including the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi; Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate; and Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
“Indigenes of Akure have been pursuing this project for nearly two decades, long before many of us got involved. But God favoured us by putting President Tinubu in office and also preserved the life of our father, Pa Fasoranti,” Oyinsan said.
With the foundation now laid, the people of Akure are being called upon to help turn this long-standing dream into a fully functioning teaching hospital that can serve the region for generations to come.
