OPay has taken another bold step in its mission to support education in Nigeria by expanding its ₦1.2 billion scholarship program to the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN). This move highlights the fintech giant’s ongoing commitment to lifting financial burdens for promising students across the country.
The 10-year scholarship scheme, which aims to support academically outstanding students, is designed to cover tuition and living expenses—giving them a chance to focus fully on their studies and future. With UNILORIN now part of this nationwide initiative, more students will benefit from OPay’s long-term vision of educational empowerment and youth development.
OPay’s Managing Director, Dauda Gotring, emphasized the company’s intention behind the initiative:
“This ₦1.2 billion 10-year scholarship program is not only about supporting today’s students but about investing in Nigeria’s future. We are committed to nurturing the brilliant minds who will shape the nation’s progress for years to come.”
The partnership was formally sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the university. UNILORIN’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the gesture.
“We would like to express our gratitude to OPay for their remarkable scholarship initiative to support our students here at UNILORIN. This initiative shows that OPay is aligning with the education agenda of the federation,” he said.
With this latest extension, OPay continues to position itself not just as a digital finance leader, but as a key player in shaping Nigeria’s educational landscape. The scholarship initiative is now touching lives in multiple institutions, offering real hope and opportunities to students across the country.
As the program grows, OPay remains focused on building a more inclusive and empowered generation—one student at a time.
The Students Forum Nigeria serves as the ultimate hub for Nigerian students, fostering academic growth, social engagement, and knowledge sharing.
