The WIPO Academy, in partnership with the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) and Africa University in Zimbabwe, is offering a fully funded Master’s degree program in Intellectual Property for African students. This unique opportunity is made possible with support from the Government of Japan.
This postgraduate program blends legal theory with hands-on training, giving students the skills to navigate and innovate in the growing field of intellectual property (IP). Over the course of the program, participants will gain a deep understanding of topics ranging from patents and trademarks to artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship.

- Patents and utility models
- Industrial designs
- Branding (trademarks and geographical indications)
- Copyright and related rights
- IP and public health, food security, and biotechnology
- Traditional knowledge and genetic resources
- IP for small and medium enterprises
- Strategic IP asset management and licensing
- Innovation, entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence
- Enforcement of IP rights
- Practical training at ARIPO
Scholarship Benefits
A number of WIPO scholarships are available for selected applicants, covering:

Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you must:
- Be a citizen of an African country
- Hold a bachelor’s degree (minimum second class lower) in any field from a recognized institution
- Be fluent in English
- Have completed the WIPO DL-101 course
