University of Manchester Announces £4.5 Million Scholarships for Nigerian Students Starting in 2025

The University of Manchester is opening doors for international students once again with its Global Futures Scholarships for 2025. Over 330 awards, worth more than £4.5 million in total, will be available to students beginning undergraduate or master’s degree programs in September 2025.

Scholarship Benefits

Each successful applicant will receive £8,000 in their first year, with the chance to renew the award for the second and third years — provided they achieve at least a 60% average each year.
The scholarship is applied as a discount towards the standard overseas tuition fees.

Eligible students must be pursuing one of the following qualifications:

  • A-Levels
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • South African Matric (NSC or IEB)
  • NCUK International Foundation Year

Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, predicted grades, and responses to an online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible offer holders. While academic merit is the primary selection criterion, the university also aims for a balanced distribution across gender, country of residence, qualification type, and course.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be international fee-paying students from Nigeria, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, or Zimbabwe.
  • Have been living predominantly in one of these countries for the past three years (not just for study purposes).
  • Apply for direct first-year entry in 2025 with one of the following qualifications: A-Level, IB Diploma, South African NSC or IEB, or NCUK International Foundation Year.
  • Be self-funded (not sponsored by an external organization).
  • Choose The University of Manchester as their FIRM UCAS choice by 23 May 2025.
  • Not have studied in the UK previously.
  • Apply for a full-time course delivered on the University’s UK campus in Manchester. Blended and distance learning courses are not eligible.
  • Excluded courses: Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, and any programs with an integrated foundation year.

Note: Eligible applicants will receive an application form by email shortly after receiving their academic offer. However, forms will not be sent before December 2024.

Important Deadlines

Applications are assessed in two rounds based on the qualification being taken:

  • Students taking A-Level, IB, or NCUK IFY: Apply by 24 April 2025.
  • Students taking South African NSC/IEB, November Series A-Level, or those already holding results: Apply by 13 March 2025.

Notification dates for successful applicants:

  • South African NSC/November A-Level students: By 11 April 2025.
  • IB, A-Level, and NCUK IFY students (2025 examinations): By 23 May 2025.

The final application deadline is 31 August 2025.
