Deputy Speaker Kalu Commissions Schools, Roads, and Boreholes in Abia

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has delivered key development projects across Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State. The projects, which cut across education, water, and road infrastructure, were officially commissioned during his visit to three wards: Bende, Itumbauzo, and Uzuakoli.

Bende is one of the largest federal constituencies in Nigeria, with 13 electoral wards. During the commissioning exercise, Kalu visited several communities where he unveiled newly completed projects aimed at improving lives and promoting development.

In the education sector, schools in different wards benefitted from new and renovated structures. These include a reconstructed three-classroom block with two offices at Okopedi Community Primary School in Itumbauzo; a new three-classroom block with an office at Etitiulo Primary School in Bende; and another reconstructed three-classroom block with two offices at Bende Secondary Grammar School. Central School, Bende, received two separate projects involving the reconstruction of three- and four-classroom blocks with office spaces, while Community Primary School, Bende, also got a three-classroom block with two offices.

Road infrastructure also received a boost, with the commissioning of the two-kilometer Ndiokorieukwu Road, the one-kilometer Bende Market–Amaogwu–Agbomiri Ring Road, and the 800-meter Okputong–Ndiekeugo Road in Bende Ward. In Uzuakoli, Kalu commissioned a newly built six-classroom block with offices and conveniences at Uzuakoli Boys’ Secondary School and a reconstructed four-classroom block at LG Amamba/Agbozu Primary School. He also flagged off the one-kilometer Okwu–Amuhie Road, the two-kilometer Ihemba Road, and a solar-powered industrial borehole at Amamba.

A statement by Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, noted that these projects were made possible through the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which provided the needed resources to make them a reality.

Speaking to residents during the commissioning events, Kalu shared the motivation behind his focus on education and infrastructure. He said the projects would significantly impact lives by improving learning environments and easing transportation challenges. “Education got me where I am today. If I didn’t go to school, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to be standing before you. Education is important. That’s why I want the next generation to also go to school. I want them to be comfortable while in class,” Kalu stated.
