Governor Charles Soludo has approved a sweeping upgrade to Anambra State’s secondary schools, bringing smart boards, tablets for teachers and free internet access to bolster learning across the state. During the ninth session of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) in Awka, the governor green-lit several key initiatives aimed at modernizing classroom facilities and improving educational outcomes.
A contract has been awarded to replace older interactive boards with fully integrated smart boards in all 22 designated “smart schools.” Each teacher in those schools will also receive a tablet to streamline lesson planning, resources access and student engagement. By putting these tools directly into the hands of educators, Soludo’s administration hopes to foster a more dynamic, tech-driven learning environment.
The Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, added that the governor has also approved the reconstruction of Boys’ Secondary School, Uga, as a “reference model” for other schools in the state. This flagship campus will showcase best practices in classroom design, technology integration and student support services, setting a standard that other schools can follow.
Soludo’s broader vision extends beyond secondary schools. He signed an order granting free internet access to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University’s Uli Campus, ensuring that students and faculty can tap online resources without worrying about connectivity costs. In a significant improvement for campus life, electricity has been restored at Uli Campus after 21 years of blackout, enabling research labs, hostels and administrative offices to function without interruption.
To further strengthen the education sector, Soludo’s free-education policy now covers Senior Secondary Year 3 (SS3), ensuring that every student can complete secondary school without tuition fees. The state has also recruited 3,115 additional teachers, bringing the total number of educators on the payroll to over 8,200. This move reduces classroom overcrowding and allows for more individualized instruction.
By combining upgraded infrastructure, technology deployment and expanded staffing, Governor Soludo aims to equip Anambra’s students with the skills they need to compete in a digital world. These reforms mark a major step forward in transforming the state’s schools into thriving centers of innovation and academic excellence.
