Nigeria’s new JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, has wasted no time setting the tone for his administration, warning those planning to beat the system to have a rethink before it is too late.
Aina, who became JAMB’s sixth Registrar and youngest in the board’s history at 40, made the declaration at his inauguration ceremony in Abuja on Friday after receiving the handover from his predecessor, Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
“The integrity of JAMB is not negotiable. Those harbouring thoughts of outsmarting the system should abandon such plans because our technology-driven processes will continue to frustrate every form of malpractice and fraud,” he said.
The new Registrar assured candidates, parents, and tertiary institutions that the board would continue to uphold fairness, transparency, and merit in the admissions process while working to reduce the stress experienced by applicants.
Aina said his immediate focus would be to listen and observe existing systems carefully before introducing any changes, promising a methodical and thoughtful approach to leadership.
He pledged to intensify efforts against examination malpractice, saying JAMB would continue to deploy technology and work with law enforcement agencies to detect, deter, and prosecute offenders.
“My responsibility is to provide leadership that allows those ideas to flourish, replacing bureaucracy with service, replacing personalities with enduring systems. It is about replacing fear with purpose, and replacing uncertainty with trust,” he said.
Aina made clear that JAMB’s credibility would not rest on any individual but on the strength of its systems, partnerships, and workforce.
“Every decision of the new management will be guided by the need to protect the dreams of millions of Nigerian candidates who rely on JAMB as the gateway to higher education,” he added.
