Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has awarded N1 million each to 30 graduating students who successfully memorised the Qur’an.
The governor announced the financial support on Sunday during a graduation ceremony held at the Indimi Mosque in Maiduguri.
Zulum also approved N2 million each for eight teachers who trained the students, bringing the total support to N46 million.
He commended Muhammadu Indimi, founder of the Indimi Islamic Trust, for his sustained contributions to Islamic education and human capital development in the state.
The governor urged Islamic scholars to embrace moderation and humility in their preaching, while promoting peace, unity and responsible citizenship.
He said his administration remained committed to strengthening both formal and non-formal education across Borno State.
Zulum stressed the importance of integrating Islamic learning with Western education to give young people wider opportunities.
According to him, education remains critical to producing a responsible and productive generation capable of contributing meaningfully to society.
The 30 graduates, who memorised the entire Qur’an, received certificates during the ceremony.
Mr Indimi, who is also chairman of Oriental Energy Resources, has supported several educational initiatives across the Northeast and Nigeria.
His contributions include a recent N2 billion donation to the University of Maiduguri education endowment fund.
The ceremony was attended by the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Garbai, alongside Mohammed Monguno and Shettima Bukar.
Also present was the Chief Imam of Borno, Imam Zannah Ibrahim, and other dignitaries.
The event celebrated the achievements of the graduates and the Indimi Islamic Trust’s continued support for Qur’anic education in Borno State.
