The management of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, has disclosed plans to renovate student hostels and tighten security across the campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, disclosed this at the University’s September prayer meeting held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Speaking on students’ welfare, Popoola said the hostels would undergo renovation as soon as students finish their examinations.
“Your welfare is very important to us, we are putting in place some facilities at the Health Centre, and we intend to get more medical Doctors to attend to our Students teeming population. The hostels will be undergoing some renovations as soon as you finish your exams, we’ve got some money from Tetfund, so, many of the hostels will be renovated between now and the time you will start a new session,” he said.
He added that the University was also working to improve health facilities and attract more medical doctors to serve the growing student population.
Popoola urged students and staff to always wear their identity cards, saying security personnel had been instructed to challenge anyone found without one.
“Our identity cards are very important, we want to ensure that the people who come to the Campus are bonafide Workers and Students of the Institution,” he said.
He also disclosed plans for new vehicle registration procedures at the University’s entry points.
“With regards to people and vehicles entering the campus, we are putting together a new arrangement, in which every vehicle coming into the University will be required to register at the gate,” he said.
This came barely a week after the University held a stakeholders’ meeting on August 26, 2026, where far-reaching security measures were resolved.
The meeting, chaired by Popoola, was attended by other principal officers, leaders of ASUU, NASU, SSANU and NAAT, the Students Union Government executive, and the Head of the University’s Security Unit.
According to a release issued after the meeting, students would be prohibited from bringing vehicles into the campus, while motorcycle owners would only be allowed in after registering with the Security Unit.
Visitors with vehicles would only be permitted to enter the campus between 8am and 6pm daily.
The University also plans to introduce a vehicle access control system, where vehicles are screened and issued tallies or identification devices before being granted access.
All commercial motorcycle operators on campus would be registered and issued uniforms and stickers, while staff who own motorcycles would also be required to register with the Security Unit.
Vehicle operators on campus have been directed to possess valid driving licences, while the Security Unit has been charged with enforcing traffic rules.
The University said the measures would help prevent unauthorised vehicles and motorcycles from entering the campus and make it easier to identify offenders in cases of reckless driving.
Management also disclosed plans to construct clearly defined speed limits across campus roads, with a task force to be set up alongside the Students Union to recommend appropriate sanctions for reckless drivers.
The authorities further warned against the sale and consumption of alcohol, smoking, and reckless driving on campus, stating that anyone found violating the rules would face appropriate sanctions.
Popoola also assured staff that their welfare needs would remain a priority for his administration, and appealed for continued cooperation from the University community.
