Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, has reversed its recent decision to increase school fees and charges for 100 Level students in the 2026/2027 academic session.
The reversal was announced in a statement dated September 3, 2026, signed by the Registrar, Dr Emmanuel Amaegbe.
According to the statement, the fee structure for the current session, 2025/2026, will be maintained in the upcoming academic year.
The university said the decision was taken after extensive consultation with critical stakeholders of the state.
“The University Management has reversed its recent decision on the upward review of charges and fees for 100 level students in the 2026/2027 academic session. This decision was taken after an extensive consultation with critical stakeholders of the state,” the statement read.
Management acknowledged that the proposed increase had caused concern among students, parents and other stakeholders.
“We understand that the proposed increase may have caused concern among students, parents and stakeholders of the state. We appreciate your feedback during this period,” the statement added.
The reversal followed widespread pushback after the university, on September 1, 2026, raised school fees for fresh students from over N100,000 to over N300,000.
Student leaders, including the Students’ Union Government (SUG), the Niger Delta University Students Union Government (NIDSUG), and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B, opposed the increment.
Students also staged protests against the new fee structure before the university’s reversal was announced.
Following the reversal, the fee structure for freshers has been restored to the 2025/2026 rate.
