IEPA Supports Education with Scholarships for 22 Beneficiaries, Including Physically Challenged Students

Twenty-two individuals, including two physically challenged university students, have been awarded scholarships by the Ilorin Emirate Professors’ Association (IEPA) under its 2024 scholarship scheme.

The beneficiaries, Ayinde Aloba from the University of Ilorin and Abdulgafar Ahmad, alongside 20 other recipients, each received ₦100,000, a certificate, and a Holy Qur’an.

The IEPA, an association of professors from the Ilorin Emirate, is committed to mentorship, promoting education, and fostering good governance. Speaking at the association’s sixth Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ilorin, the outgoing IEPA president, Prof. Abdulfatai Olokoba, highlighted the association’s efforts to ensure inclusivity by expanding the scholarship program to accommodate 22 beneficiaries this year, including the physically challenged students.

According to Prof. Olokoba, the scholarship initiative, launched in 2022, is made possible through the support of Senator Saliu Mustapha, who provided ₦10 million to fund the program. During the event, Senator Mustapha, one of three honorees celebrated for their contributions, announced an additional donation of ₦20 million to further the association’s educational initiatives.

“Education and human capital development are crucial for the progress of the Ilorin Emirate, and I remain committed to supporting this cause,” Mustapha stated.

Other honorees recognized for their contributions included Senators Ibrahim Oloriegbe and Rukayat Gbemisola Saraki.

In a lecture titled “Level of Educational Advancement in Ilorin Emirate: Opportunities in Employment and Appointment”, Alhaji Lasisi Jimoh, a historian and author of “Ilorin: The Journey So Far”, urged Ilorin-born professors and administrators to leave lasting legacies wherever they serve.

The event reinforced IEPA’s mission to nurture educational growth and inclusivity in the Ilorin Emirate while inspiring stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to the community.
