A total of 117 pioneer graduates from Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, have been mobilized for national service under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This marks a major milestone for the young institution.
In a statement issued over the weekend in Abuja, the Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu, expressed the university’s pride in this historic achievement. He extended the gratitude of the institution’s leadership, staff, and students to the founder of CUSTECH, Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State.
“This historic milestone marks a significant achievement for the young institution, as its first-ever graduates commence their national service, exemplifying the university’s dedication to producing globally competent graduates ready to serve the nation,” the statement read.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the visionary leadership of Yahaya Bello, whose commitment to education led to the establishment of CUSTECH. In just five years, the university has emerged as a hub of academic excellence. Prof. Salawu also acknowledged the unwavering support of Kogi State’s current Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for fostering the institution’s continued growth.
According to the statement, CUSTECH has achieved remarkable growth in a short time. The university’s academic programs have expanded from 11 to 56 within four years, covering diverse fields such as Medical Sciences (Medicine, Nursing, etc.), Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Computing, Law, and other cutting-edge disciplines. This rapid development reflects the solid foundation laid by the institution’s founders and the ongoing support from the state government.
“The monumental growth is a demonstration of the university’s commitment to addressing the critical needs of Nigeria’s economy and preparing students for leadership roles in these sectors. Availability of adequate facilities coupled with a conducive learning environment has greatly enhanced learning, enabling 14 of the graduates to obtain first-class degrees,” the statement noted.
The management of CUSTECH encouraged the pioneer graduates to serve as exemplary ambassadors of the university during their service year and to make meaningful contributions to their host communities. The institution expressed confidence that these graduates will uphold its values and showcase the quality education they have received.
“As the pioneer set embarks on this transformative journey, CUSTECH reaffirms its commitment to excellence, innovation, and contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth,” the statement concluded.
The Students Forum Nigeria serves as the ultimate hub for Nigerian students, fostering academic growth, social engagement, and knowledge sharing.
