Oyo State Government Pays ₦5 Billion out of ₦8 Billion to Osun for Full LAUTECH Ownership

The Oyo State Government has confirmed the payment of ₦5 billion out of the ₦8 billion agreed sum to Osun State for the full ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

In a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government revealed that the payment has been made in annual instalments of ₦1 billion and will be fully settled before the end of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

The statement recalled that both states reached an agreement on November 20, 2020, officially transferring full ownership of LAUTECH to Oyo State.

“The joint ownership of LAUTECH was acrimonious between the governments of the two states from 2007 to 2019, when Governor Seyi Makinde took over and surprisingly reached an agreement with his Osun counterpart to make Oyo the sole owner of the institution,” the statement said.

Since the agreement, the university has experienced significant growth. LAUTECH has not only retained its spot as Nigeria’s top-ranking state university but has also expanded in infrastructure and academic reach.

A notable development is the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Iseyin Campus. The state government also released ₦650 million as a take-off grant for a Teaching and Research Farm at the new campus.

In addition to these investments, Oyo State has launched simultaneous infrastructure projects at:

  • LAUTECH Iseyin Campus
  • Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan
  • Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo

These efforts highlight the government’s broader commitment to improving education and strengthening higher institutions across the state.
